A Far-right Dream: AFD Surges in Germany

Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) made significant gains in the Sept. 20 state elections, finishing first in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and becoming the third-largest party in Berlin. The results follow the party's roughly 44% showing in Saxony-Anhalt earlier this month. Despite its gains, the AfD has no coalition partner in either state, leaving it in opposition for now.
