Can Texas Undo The PR Damage?
Infamous Bo French post gave infinite ammo to opposing fan bases
It’s been about two weeks now since the first cannon fired in the French-Indian War. Yes, I speak of when Texas’ republican candidate for Railroad Commissioner Bo French hit send on the tweet that sent shockwaves around the world putting a shattering crack in the Overton window allowing the overflowing water of this countries Indian immigration problem to seep through and enter the national conversation. The fallout from Bo’s tweet, in terms of reaching normies, made Viveks infamous Christmas crashout seem minuscule. The tweet was a picture of Texas student section being all jeets with a caption on how this is how the Austin, Texas university seems to be now and how no one knows bad the problem is.
Growing up, and even as a young adult, one of my favorite elements of college football was how fifty states worth of Americana found their way into my living room on any given Saturday. The Texas students with their boots and big buckled belts, the southeast students with their classic collared shirts, flip flops, and khaki shorts, the midwesterners with their old school flannels combined with school apparel in an expert manner that the best minds of Paris and Milan’s fashion industry wouldn’t come up with, Appalachia America doing the same with their blue collar grade jackets and jeans. When EA finally took it upon themselves to make their first college football game in over a decade, I spent two weeks straight playing as my beloved Razorbacks on a country wide tour, playing at every school in alphabetical order. Oh, what a time it was.I saw the mountains, the valleys, the deserts, I saw General Robert E Lee’s alma matter West Point, everything that makes our country great. Yes, it’s certainly fair to say that in the college sports world your image, regional culture, and student body that represents it is quite significant.
Since this catastrophic event, Texas has played one game against the University of Texas-San Antonio (30-6) and now has the Tennessee Volunteers on the horizon. Let’s just say #VolsTwitter has not disappointed with taking advantage of the opportunity that French blazed the way for. All week Tennessee fans have been posting memes from an ai generated deodorant stand outside the stadium to videos of overpopulated Hindi festivals on the subcontinent captioned “Texas fans arriving at the stadium”. The nature of these memes have allowed for a pleasant crossover of right wing twitter and sports twitter. Notably, right wing meme account “Homans Top Guy” quoted a video of Tennessee fans mocking Indian bazaar style of unhygienic outdoor cooking practices captioned “how Texas fans cook at the tailgate” with the honest statement “I really don’t know if Texas recovers from that photo”, which brings me here to writing this article today.
The roughneck lone star state was once considered an American right wingers heaven. Movies like No Country For Old Men and Come Hell or High Water painted the state as an anarcho liberterian fever dream. Moderates to Hard Right California refugees used the state as a sanctuary from multicultural communism en masse. However aside from the problems that stem from bordering Mexico, the Indian immigration problem fermented like lake water against a dam, being unnoticeable to overflowing and becoming unbearable. Since Bo’s tweet caught MSM attention and every establishment Republican has rushed to condemn and every Democrat has rushed to virtue signal, Real Texans™️ have taken the opportunity to share their personal stories about how Indian immigration has affected them.
So, how does Texas go back to its previous image and undo the PR struggle they’re facing? Due to the universities policy of admitting the top five percent of all of Texas public schools, it’s more of an up mountain all out war than an uphill battle. The only thing that saves the Longhorns public image is probably serious demographic change in the state and then a PR campaign that reminds us of the Texan stock of old. With Greg Abbott behind the wheels, I don’t see that happening but I’ll be rooting for our lone star patriots. Until then, every week of the football season is an easy opportunity for the opposing team to run up some easy engagement off the same format. I mean, if you’re a UT student or Alumni (Real Texan™️), how do you even respond to “you are the jeet school” without sounding mad?
We’ll wait and see how Texas fans clap back at the memes and rebuilds their PR image one day, but until then, I like The Longhorns by ten this weekend.
