On a midterm campaign stop in Ohio, Trump made it known that he remembers Springfield, Ohio, the little town that was utterly flooded with tens of thousands of Haitians during Biden’s presidency. Back in 2024, at the peak of election season tension, the legendary X account Captive Dreamer found a clip of citizens of the town raising their concerns in a public forum that the immigrant newcomers had been stealing and grilling the pets of their American neighbors.
Trump loved the story and how it illustrated the everyday horrors of letting tons of immigrants into your town, and rallied his campaign around it, leveraging the story into a huge polling surge that many credit as being the final push that won the election. While hard to say, it certainly felt like it at the time. Now, Trump is letting everyone know that Martin was right about the cats and dogs, and put Haitians everywhere on notice.
